Good, But The 2004 Vintage Was Better
Santa Rita is very much one of our "go to" wines -- the Merlot is a treat, a chance to have something that tastes upscale, but without the cost. Before the price of the wine fell a bit, we had presented the wine as gifts on several occasions and received positive feedback. At our local supermarkets, the wine is modestly priced, but still competes in taste with much more expensive brands.
If you have access to the 2004 vintage of the Merlot, it comes across much better than the 2005, although we remain Santa Rita fans and still recommend the wine. We're looking forward to the 2006 vintage.
